Okay guys i've just signed up i have posted in the intro forum and as stated in there im going to be getting a mk4 golf and i have a few questions about modifications etc. okay the car it is concerning is:

    2001 Golf (mk4) S 5dr - 1.4 Dark Blue - 40,000 miles.

    1)
The golf has original steelies on it, and i was just wondering what size these are / tyres etc. and what size alloys would be the best for the golf? I'm currently looking at 16" RS4s or 17" RS8 replicas however i don't want the speedo to be out by much.

    2) I have read there is a way to make the doors lock after 10mph using vag-com however i was just wondering if you need remote central locking for this or just normal central locking?

    3) The golf has central locking, but i was just wondering how much it would cost to convert it to remote central locking, and if it is an easy task to accomplish etc.

    4) I saw on ebay a 25 anniversary body kit (well splitters / sides / spoiler) for £250? is this a good bargin? has anyone else fitted one of these etc or would it be better to pay £500+ and get the full body kit.

    5) Do badgeless grilles come with a piece to cover up the semi circle hole on the bonnet? as im looking at a bonnet spoiler to cover that up but for now i wont get one if it is not nessecary?

    6) My modification ideas are:
Alloys, Badgeless Grille, Debadged boot, maybe r32 rear lights and smoked/clear side repeaters (undecided)

is there any other modifications people would reccomend? and is there a one-piece filler for the boot badge? or would it be best just to leave it?

Thank you for taking the time to read this and i hope to hear back from you all soon

i dont mean to sound negative and dont take offence to this but if you spend all that money on a 1.4 you will struggle to get any of it back. and i know no one wants a car thats been messed with, cars are nice standard with maybe some nice wheels, plus bigger wheels will make the 1.4 much slower on acceleration.
my personal opinion would be to get the money you will spend on the wheels and body kit etc, and use it to get a higher spec model, ie a gt tdi or gti etc. hope this helps

to be honest im looking at keeping the car for a couple of years, i am getting a loan to buy the car and cover the cost of insurance but i dont want to drive just a golf i want to add subtle touches as i have to my corsa that i own at the moment.
the bodykit was just an idea thrown in there however i dont want to drive on steelies so i dont mind buying the alloys and the rest are just small modifications.
the car has been well looked after and im getting it fairly cheap from my brother for the amazing condition it is in.

    yeah i understand mate.
but this will be my second car, 1 year ncb etc
insurance is around £1700? due to living in a high crime rate area (thats with few modifications i chose declared) or £1600 without.. i want a newer car but still am not ready for a brand new car so i decided on a mk3 golf but seeing the mileage on them i decided not to get one and to buy my brothers mk4.

Rather than going 'over the top' and ending up with it looking like some 'Barry-Boys' wreck, what about fitting a nice set of 17/18 inch alloys, rear tailgate spoiler, r32 rear lights and have the front and rear bumper skirts colour coded.

When you do eventually sell it, you will then have a better chance of doing so.

Remember the Mk4 Golf TV advert a few years ago with all the crying Golfs upset at all the boy racer mods that had been made to them...
150 GTI DIESEL - propper juice!!

I asked my local vw dealer about converting from central to remote central locking and it was unbelievably expensive!! So decided to leave it in the end from memory it was around £6-700? And it was quite an involved job! Also it's just something else to go wrong and have to fix at some point!
