    Default Golf Mk 2 1991 1.8GL Man Fast idle + – 17-02-2008,07:04 PM
    My faithful old Golf 114k miles runs very lumpily when started from cold but as soon as it warms up a bit it "idles" at 3000+ revs which makes driving it exciting. It's ok when it is up to temp but sometime revs up by itself when I declutch to change gear at speed and normally runs on a bit when turned off. There is often a nasty smell of petrol around the car after that. Numerous garages have had a go at sorting this but the problem seems never to get resolved. I'm told the carb is complicated by various heaters and sensors. Has anyone experienced similar or got any good advice please?

    Welcome! You would be best off to post in the VW Golf section in order to get some sort of solution to your problem.
