Golf MKiv Auxiliary Heating

Hi Guys.
Does anyone know about auxiliary heating systems on MKiv Golfs. I have a 1.9 GT TDI 02 plate, and would like to know if it has an aux heater fitted. How can I find out? On the Under side of the car about under the driver seat area there is a finned unit, what is this unit?
I am a full time Firefighter and a part time Firefighter on my days off, and get called out by pager. On receipt of a call I have to respond to my station within 5 Mins at normal road speed, as I live just short of three miles away every second counts and during the cold spells I really need the car to defrost quickly. This is why I am wanting this info.
I would much appreciate your comments on this issue.

Hi The factory fitted auxillary heater is fitted in the wheel arch behind the front bumper right hand side.The component you mention is the fuel cooler.Although the auxillary heaters are quite good it still takes time for them to heat the coolant water. In your circumstance i would go for a warm up system which consists of an engine heat element and a 750w heater(which is innside the car)all you need is an out door plug in contact.Defa supply a good system.
