Hi Folks, I'm new one here, so go easy on me...

    I just bought my first VW, a Golf 1.4 S, 2001....51 plate.

Now it's been running fine up until I took it out on the motorway to see what it could do...

Up to 60mph all is fine, apart from the revs being maybe a little over happy. But as soon as I take it past 60/65 the engine sounds like it's really being pushed, which ain't good!

This only happens in 5th gear, and when taken to it's limit (flooring it) it wont go anything past 76mph...which is way off the mark. A mate has a similar car and does....well, much faster than this no problem...

Totally lost about what could be causing this. Is the engine tuned badly, an issue with the age of the car, or a problem with the gear settings....?

Just got the car from a VW dealer 10 days ago and all appeared to be OK. I'm going to take it back in on Monday and see what the service guys say, but any advice on what might be the problem / similar experiences would be greatly appreciated....

    All advice welcome...

Read by many, replied by none...

    But hey, it's cool...problem solved.

Got the engine checked by VW dealer and no longer happening.
5th gear now super smooth, 100+ all singing all dancing...

    :-)

    Hi FLENG2008,

To be honest, I have no idea whatsoever...

The VW service guy was not the most informative guy in the world so al I got was...

"The computer came up with no major errors, and the problem appears to be rectified"....

I reckon he's not giving me the entire story, but as long as it's not happening any more then I'm happy (for now).

If it kicks off again and it goes back, then I'll post the info...
