Hi, as you might have guessed this is my first post...I'm Billy, from down in Cornwall and in a couple of weeks will be a proud owner of a 53 plate A6 1.8T, with 56k on the clock.

Just a couple of questions, which I'm hoping you can help with:

    1) The car has been on Audi's longlife servicing plan - it is an ex 1 owner fleet car, and the SH shows that it has been serviced approx every 17k miles or so. It hasn't had the cambelt changed, and every Audi garage I ring up seem to give differing intervals (from 60k to 80k) - just wondering if anyone knew when it should be, and bearing in mind that the car was reg'd in Oct 03 so is 4 and a half years old?

    2) I've been reading issues of poor running associated with the MAF sensor. The car was serviced by Audi 1000 miles ago (again longlife), and I'm wondering if there are any things I should consider doing straight away to keep it in tip top condition? Are there any items that are missed by the Audi service which I should do when I get the car?

    3) Does anyone know where I can get a front armrest from? Tried VAG parts, but with the leather cover it comes to the other side of 200 quid!! - Just wondering if there are any other suppliers? A4 ones seem to be in abundance on ebay, but no joy with the A6 part.

    4) Finally, what sort of mpg can I expect at cruising at 80 on the motorway? I dont expect to get much more thatn 20mpg round the country lanes, but I do a regular drive to Sheffield, and wondering what the consumption would be?

Sorry about the long post, would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks,

    Billy.

1 - change the cambelt anyway, better safe than sorry.

2 - MAF is usually a problem with diesels, regular seviceing and maintenance will keep it all good.

    3 - ebay.

    4 - around 30.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy the car.

As above. You should get 30mpg easily seen as you say it has been serviced. I would change the cambelt, I believe the schedule is every 5 years or 60k which ever comes first, plus you don't know if the car has ever been clocked, so I would get it done. Another thing, don't give up on e-bay, I bought an arm rest about 6 months ago. £48.01!!!

    Thanks for the replies.

I'll keep a look on ebay, dont think I can bear stumping up over 200 quid for an armrest!

Will be surprised if it is clocked - bodywork, and wear on the leather interior seems to stack up, and I HPI'd it...so hopefully no surprises - and the service records tie up too..

Good. Mine was all good apart from the gearknob was very worn. It just made me think about it. It has FSH, though only part Audi. After seeing examples of others I now believe it hasn't been clocked. I thought the steering wheel was worn, as it was quite shiny, but its the same on all Audis, it's the style.

Vag parts do gear knobs...although I expect you knew that - what are the Audi main dealer prices like? I needed one for my M3, and it wasn't that expensive - infact it was cheaper than some rubbish on ebay...

60k for the belt and tensioner. MPG, locally I get 31/32, motorway highest on Shell fuel 40.2 over 300 miles indicated 76mph, sat nav 71, one pitt stop. Same journey opposite direction but very similair weather on Tesco supermarket fuel 37.8 mpg make your own conclusion on where to buy fuel. Take it off the long life servicing and do at at 8 to10K use relly good oil like castrol edge 5/30 fully synthetic or similair. Regards Peter
