I have recently bought a 2000 passat 1.9 tdi 130, everything seemed fine until a couple of weeks ago. When the turbo was just about to kick in whilst accelerating the car hesitated briefly then the power returned. The car also seemed sluggish at high speeds not much torque. I replaced the MAF sensor as this seemed to be one of the most comon problems that arose. This seemed to fix the problem straight away, but a couple of days later the car started hesitating again, but now only in the low gears at low revs. The turbo kicks in fine and there seems to be power but I am now at a loss at what it could be. Also the hesitation is intermittent. Can anyone help I am not brilliant with engines I know some basics. The local mechanic we use suggested the fuel filter may need changing, i'm not sure.

    thanks mneale

A diagnostic check might bring up a fault code of a dodgy thrust sensor. This measures the boost and controls much of the fuelling etc. When that sensor gives up, or starts to give up, it can cause these kind of "MAF related" power issues.

Thanks for the advice. Had the car checked on a diagnostic which did not show any faults with thrust sensor. However there was a fault which had been stored for the MAF sensor. The garage said it may have been a fault with the old MAF sensor so they reset it. They took car for a drive and could not feel the hesitation, so suggested i drive it for a few days and if problem persists take it back as it may be the new MAF sensor I have replaced is faulty. The problem is still there so I decided to take MAF sensor back out the car check all vacuum connections, and replace it again, just incase I had knocked something. Hey presto the car is fine. Although I do wonder if the car may develop a fault again, as I am unsure whether the hesitation would show straight away or take a few days to show if it was going to.

    Thanks for help
