Oil consumption

Hi all

Sorry to bring up a problem or subject which has been discussed before ....

I have owned my 20.TDI 140 for a a few months now and have put a litre of engine oil in already and the oil low light has come on. Now I know it burns a bit but how often ? I've only done maybe a thousand miles and not driven it hard..... any ideas on how often it must be topped up.

Also which brand is he best to get, I have been putting Castrol edge turbo in it and it's costin an arm and a leg...any advice here as wel please.
