I have a tough decision to make. The 2.7T I just bought form a non franchised dealer has a service history dilema.

It's been on the long life maintenance schedule since new according to the well documented history I have from the previous owner. Looks like the services come around regularly every 17k miles and 18 months.

So, it is just due for the next Audi service as I am at 68k miles and 18 months since the last Audi service.

The spanner in the works is that the previous owner, just before trading in the car at an Audi dealer, had a service done at a non franchised garage who also reset the service indicator for the standard interval. I am guessing the previous owner did this to avoid Audi pointing out the cambelts needed changing. I had the dealer I bought the car from do it anyway!

Strictly speaking it doesn't need a service but now is the time to maintain the FASH if I want to.

It is likely I will keep the car for 3 years and it will have covered around 130k miles by then. Will the FASH be so important at 9 years old with 130k on the clock?

Can someone advise what a service 2 is likely to cost without the 'extras' which are sure to be added when they find something wrong!

    What would you do???

    Thanks

    Steve

When i bought my audi [ it was a part x to the car company i was working for at the time ] it was one owner and had audi history [ stamped service book ] and lots of invoices telling me what work had been done It had 142,000 when i got it
A main dealer is the best [ or ******* ! ] and you get the little stamp in your book a free coffee while you wait for your invoice --------then the shock " how much " " i dont belive it " ! If your keeping the car for a return on the money that it cost you ,then having full dealer service history is good but you will pay for it or plastic will !
Lots of garages out there do have the proper gear and good mechanics and you wont be charged ******* prices ,and will keep your bank in the black
So just weigh it all up

When it is 9 years old most people wouldn't be bothered about FASH. It all depends on your personal preference. I didn't have this dilemma when I bought mine from a non-franchised dealer because it had FSH but not FASH. So due to this I service it myself etc. In terms of what it will cost you, it cost me in excess of £300 inc VAT for service parts including all filters, cambelt, tensioners, water pump, oil, windscreen wiper. So for a service 2 I would expect you to pay that + labour.

When I bought mine (99 2.5TDi quattro) it had a full Audi history, which I initially maintained. But when the 130k service came up I had all of the belts changed, and it dropped out of the Audi service network ! I found a good independant run by an ex VAG technician, it was £500 cheaper than Audi wanted to charged me and he gave me an honest opinion of the car (not replacing things that Audi suggested replacing 10k miles before).

I figured there was no way the car would lose £500 in value if I was to sell it - it's 9 years old with 136k miles on it and I think the full history is more important than it specifically being Audi. Besides I intend on keeping the car for a while yet.

My wifes A3 had already dropped out of the dealer network when we bought it, I see no point in sending it back to the network now, again another car I don't intend on selling soon.

Choice is yours, but I would do the same again every time.

That's my two pence worth for you

Thanks for your input guys. Very useful. I have an independent Audi specialist just up the road in Cambridge where I work so I think I will have him look after the car and drop out of the main dealer network.

Find a good local Audi specialist - they'll have all the know how and will save your wallet being ripped to tatters.
