Hi A common fault, and it is the spindels, which the wiper arms are screwed to, that are seizing in their bushes.

I had the same thing on my A6. Had to get the linkage changed - Skoda garage that supplied the car did it for just over a hundred quid parts and labour.

You can do it yourself , get the new or from breakers the arms with the splined bushes in ,its fiddly but make sure the wipers are in the return position and stay like that Wiper motor is under plastic tray in the skuttle ,take all that off Then you will see the wiper motor [ tip - get paper and pen and draw picture of arm position and bushes ---- so you know its right when you put it back --- or take pic with mobile ! ] Undo nuts on wiperblade arms and prize off the arms [ flat bladed s/driver ] Then undo arm nut on motor ,remove the arms and put it back in reverse order

Hope this helps if not get someone else to do it !

Set the short arm (that bolts to the motor shaft) at a 2 degree angle to the main frame of the arm assembly towards the passanger side. Then position your wipers on the splines and they will return to this position constantly. Also, grease inside the assembly if refurbishing.
