I was wondering what engine oil do i need for my vw passat se 1.9tdi(red di), x reg.

Any oil that meets VW 505.01, that means any oil that is very expensive, or if you want extended service intervals, any oil that is very very expensive

Well I followed the link, £8 a litre or £28 for 4 litres (505.01), is very expensive to me, you must get paid too much nick! I ran my vectra on £9 for 5 litres turbo-diesel oil, I clocked up 185,000 no problems and its still going strong for its new owner, thats what I call inexpensive oil.

No you must use oil that meets VW 505.01 (or 506.01 for extended service intervals), PD engines require 5/40 that meets at least VW505.01, look in you handbook

if you use castrol u must use castrol edge only fing is its £45.00 per 4ltr whaaaaooooooooo 1ltr top up £16.99 nuff said use fuchs for set service interval

I buy 5 litres of proper quantum (VW) PD oil for about £24, from any VAG group main dealer. I use an audi dealer as they are nearest. Just ask for "PD OIL". I know it is expensive, but i know i am using the correct oil.My passat is a taxi and has done 180,000 miles and the engine is still going strong.
