    Hi Hilly,

What a nightmare. What I don't understand is the relevance of where you purchased the car from? Seems that as the dealership have not made a profit out of the sale they are not interested! Audi service history may be the next barrier, as I understand it the car should be service every 2 yrs on longlife, annual otherwise, regardless of miles.

At 7k though, no maintenance is required on the gearbox (until 40k where the oil needs changing, if quattro I think they are sealed so this doesn't apply) so even if it had service history nothing would have been done to it! I had my car serviced at Audi last month, there visual check on a service does say they look at clutch but this is an auto box so what’s to look at?

Anyhow, I'd speak to Audi uk customer service explain that you brought the brand for strength, reliability, reputation, told all your friends what a great car it is etc etc what am I going to tell them now? have you owned audi's before? lay it on thick. Also look at the sales of goods act (or equivalent now as it was revised). The act states something like it being reasonable to expect goods to last for a period of time ie fit for purpose. A gearbox should be designed to last longer than 7k.

I didn't by my car of an audi main dealer either and they replaced the gear box, I think I was incredibly lucky but I know others on the forum didn't buy through main dealer and got contributions for parts (not sure complete box?). They probably won't discuss my case with you for data protection and customer confidentially reason and say that each case is assessed individually etc.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Hilly,

You have probably read my posts so I won't bore you with all the details!!!

I purchased from a non-Audi showroom (small non-franchised "prestige" car seller in Bristol), A4, 53 reg, 31,000 miles. (Last June - so 3 1/2 years old).

The clutch-plate was 50% goodwill from Audi and 50 % from the warranty from seller.

The valve body was 90 % goodwill from Audi and 10% from me.

The gearbox should have been changed at the beginning of the troubles - I would probably have kept the car then!!!

I miss the car - but I don't miss the hassle!!!

Many thanks Glove / Max. I have printed off the info you have both provided me and hopefully it will assist with the call I am going to have to make to Audi UK. I will keep you posted Lisa (Hilly03)

I have noticed over the past 6 weeks a couple of things are re-occuring:
    • Reversing off my drive (slight slope) no such power and I need to give the car some revs to get it to move.
    • Pulling up at a junction, lights etc (in Drive or Sports) the rev counter will go up and want to go forward
    • A very embarassing couple of times in the past 2 weeks where I have pulled up and stopped at a roundabout (whilst in Drive) and then foot on the accelerator to go but it won't go anywhere! I have had to place it in first gear for it to move on.
I am hoping that someone can give me some guidance/diagnosis as the car is now out of warranty.

    Cheers
i have just experienced similar problem ie loss of drive.the fault may lie in the gearbox ecu which is situated within the box, repair cost by dealer £1400.00.this car car done 45000 miles and goodwill was rejected by audi because the auto box oil was not change at 40000miles.quite why an oil change can increse the life of an ecu i aint sure but am still investigating.regards Ken

HI m8 i had the same problem with my 3.0s cab 2003 multitronic gearbox the car had only done 56k and had been serviced by audi from new and had gearbox oil changed at 40k so there was no excuse's from them i was told it was the clutch gone and it would cost me £2500 and i said (you have bumped your heads ) and i was going to watchdog about it as they knew about the problems with these gearbox's i emailed audi uk and told them they told me to take the car into audi chelmsford and they will check out the problem at no cost. The service manager phoned me a day later and said it was the clutch and audi uk would pay half towards to bill i said no that was not good enough and he come back with a better offer at £1000.I said ok and they give me a courtesy car for 2 days and when they phoned me to pick up the car 2days later the price had gone down to £850 so i was well pleased. If i was you stand by your word and say no way at 7k your car as not even run in lol.. good luck m8 hope you get it sorted..
