warning light on at all times

Hi there, we've 2002 Passat Estate 1.8. A warning light stays on all the time saying luggage comp. open. Any ideas on how to adjust it? Also under the left hand side air conditioning outlet, the plastic coating on the outlet is soft and comes off. Oil seeping from the air conditioning maybe? Any info would be appreciated. Cheers

The boot warning light is normally due to water leaking from the rear windscreen washer. Do you notice water on the bottom of the tailgate when you open it after spraying water. Take the trim pannel off on the inside, their are 2 common causes of failure, either the plastic pipe comes off or the brass pipe in the middle of the wiper arm siezes and cracks.

Mine was the pipe come off, I just pushed it back on and am carefull not to spray it when i think it may be frozen. If it has been like it for a while the contacts on the boot open sensor might have corroded. First thing is to stop the water leak.

Many thanks for your reply. I think you're spot on. The problem started just a couple of days ago and yes there was a leak in the rear screen washer! Well done! This is the first time I've posted on this forum and I'm so impressed...thanks again.
