    Hi guys,

I am thinking about upgrading my current standard 15" Alloys to some 18" R32/RS6/RS8 style ones. I have changed alloys on my previous cars fine however I am a bit reluctant to do so as I am sure I have read somewhere that it will affect the car's "air" hydraulic suspension. I obviously understand that the car will not drive as smooth and I will feel bumps ETC more.

I just wanted to ask you the experts what you think... Is the air suspension issue just a way VW stop people from upgrading the alloys or is it just a myth?

    Thanks
    Sooty

hi mate iam not an expert but i think some nice 18s shouldent ruin the ride of your car you might feel the really big potholes and man-holes your car will handle better also i hope this helps.

    Hi,

I have a set of 18" Rs4 alloys on my passat, it really sets the car off well, but a year on I've had to replace all the suspension arms again (4 each side) and I only replaced them last year. They may not have been VW part replacements but I think the alloys had something to do with it.

Saying this I wouldn't put steels or smaller alloys on my car now

    Cheers

My Passat sport has Audi rings stamped on the suspension parts. Most Audi models come with optional 18" wheels so I doubt your suspension would wear out in a year as a result. Maybe the quality of the replacements is to blame. I fitted 18" wheels to my Passat and it is fine.
