    Ive got the MOT re-test thursday afternoon.

    Its now failed twice on emissions

    Bit of history 1st.

    Bought the car off a friend, it hadnt been used for about 8 months, it woz only 3months after the MOT, when it got parked up. About £600 was put into passing it.
    It had to be kept at work, but it needed to moved out of the way daily, it woz started & drove bout 20-30 yards or so each day, the battery regularily needing a charge to start.
    I picked the car up drove it home, it woz running a bit rough, not surprised after the lack of use. took it for an MOT see whats what.
    Emissions, CV boot an tyre valve trapped by the hub cap, with an advisory about exhaust - so no probz there then lol

    Emissions Test:
    ==========================
    Natural Idle Test:

    RPM: --- not checked
    CO % vol: --- Max value-0.500, actual-0.613 - fail

    Fast Idle Test:

    RPM: --- not checked
    CO %vol: --- max value-0.300, actual-0.008 - pass
    HC ppm vol: --- max value-200, actual-6 - pass
    Lambda: --- min value-0.970 max value-1030, actual-1.007 - pass

    Second Fast Idle Test: - not checked
    ============================

    Bought new sparks, air filter, full exhaust system.
    replaced CV boot with universal stick together type, an sorted tyre valve.

    Back to MOT centre - Failed on brakes, exhaust, CV boot an emissions ***?? I woz not a happy bunny

    Ive posted about the brakes prob, parts arriving 2morow

    The exhaust bolts between, Cat. Conv & downpipe had loosened a bit, or i hadnt done the job properly in the 1st place lol

    The emissions results were different to last time
    =========================================
    Natural Idle Test:

    RPM 1/min: --- min limit - 710, max limit - 1010, actual value - 881 - pass
    CO %vol: --- max limit is 0.500, actual value - 0.491 - pass

    Fast Idle Test:

    RPM 1/min: --- min-2450, Max-3050 Actual-2734 - pass
    CO %vol: --- max-0.300, actual-0.620 - fail
    HC ppm vol: --- max-200, actual-110 - pass
    Lambda: --- min-0.970, max-1.030, actual-1.140 - fail

    Second Fast Idle Test:

    RPM 1/min: --- min-2450, max-3050 Actual-2708 - pass
    CO %vol: --- max-0.300, actual-0.661 - fail
    HC ppm vol: --- max-200, actual-133 - pass
    Lambda: --- min-0.970, max-1.030, actual-1.121 - fail

    Oil Temp deg C: --- min-80, actual-87 - pass
    ============================================

    Bought a VAG-COM, trial version 409.1, got errors
    =======
    00520 - Air Mass / Air Flow Sensor (G70)/(G19)
    31-10 - Open or Short to Ground - Intermittent
    00523 - Intake Air Temp Sensor (G42)
    30-10 - Open or Short to B+ - Intermittent
    =======

    Have been told that, the MAF error can come up if the car hasnt been used, and the battery has been removed, which is has.
    The solution is to run it a few times, should clear the error,
    but it could be a genuine error, i dont want to throw £103 (cheapest i can find) at it, if its not the prob,
    nor do I wanna throw £69 (cheapest ....) into a lambda sensor, if thats not at fault, could the Lambda reading have been caused by the cat & pipe not being mated properly ??
    Any help would be gratefully received, like I said re-test thurs :S

    whats causing these readings?
    What do i do next?
    Ive had to cancel the re-test

    Ive removed the piping between air filter and throttle, does my throttle need to be adapted thru the ecu ??

    Cud it be anythin else? that'll make it run rich?

    Hi
    I am sure I have read on this forum somewhere that, the ECU adapts to the ruuning conditions, so if it has only been used for short journeys or just idleing the ecu has adapted the mixture!

    Could just be coked up, I would suggest a good blast down a bypass if it was legal.
