    Hi
I have a 2004 Passat & recently the Climatronic AC has stopped working i.e. it won't cool. The gas etc has been checked & is ok.
According to the local VW garage the motor flap is broken, to have a replacement they're quoting me £75 for the part and £900 labour as the dash has to come out.
I king of feel I'm getting stung here! Can anyone offer any advice?
Is this a job I can do myself with my mechanic mate's help? Are there any special precautions to be taken in removing the dash (air bags etc)?
VW garage indicated that it was not an unusual fault so was wondering if anyone else on here has been through it?
    Many thanks in advance

People have done it with just taking the glovebox out.

Which flap is not working, V68, V70 or V71 ?????

Have you had them reset with a vVAG COM to see if there just stuck or have lost there position.

Hi thanks for the reply. It's the V68, I haven't tried resetting it yet. I don't have VAGCOM as yet but I'm hopefully borrowing a code reader/clearer(Gendan) from a colleague and will try that at the weekend.
Any further info gratefully received, thank you

Im not sure if a code reader will work, but a VAG COM will do it.

Where are you located, maybe there is a local member with a VAG COM.

A generic code reader will only pickup safety/emmission codes specified in the OBD standards, not manufacturer-specific ones such as this.

I think this is located behind the centre console low down.
I think the flap is donated by a red 'rack' (as in rack ad pinion) sticking out of the HVAC box. I think you can see it by removing the glovebox, and maybe a piece of plastic above the carpet in the footwell on the side of the centre console. This is how it is on a similar Skoda,

I posted the same in an earlier thread about your problem.
I had a motor replaced and it cost me £170 parts and labour.
The dash did'nt need to come out.

Make sure the centre boss of the aircon compressor is rotating when you select auto and drop the selected temp to the lowest setting, could be a bad conection on the clutch supply wire, I have had this on both my Passats (one was unplugged after a service and the other was rubbed through by the aircon pipe)
