I want to change my standard 16s on my 2.0 GT Fsi but was looking for some advice as to whether to go for 17s or 18s.

    All opinions welcome...

    Thanks

    Michael.

And the debate arises again.... lol

Welcome to the forum, if you use the search fuction at the top of the page and type something like 17's or 18's... you'll be bombarded with posts.... EG the last time this came up

    The general argument is....

18's are heavier and use less tyre to protect form impacts from the road so realtively more uncomfortable ride.

17's are lighter, and have slightly more tyre, between the rim and the floor.

if fact i could go on all day.... do the search i mentioned and all will be revealed

PS 1 have 18's with 225/40's on them (i think?)

Thanks, I have had a look.

Think I will go for 17s. I had 18s on a car before and it was a pretty harsh ride, I changed them to 17s and it did make a huge difference, but maybe that is also dependant on what the car is.

    Tough choice for sure...

got 18s on mine (2.0 gt tdi) ride is a bit harsh at times & bit a tyre roar when on a poor surface (could also be down to the tyres on it), 17s will give more comfortable ride but prefer the way mine looks.

Still not decided, I really want the 18s as they do look far better. My previous 18s had a 35 profile as that was what was needed for the car. Maybe with a 40 profile they will not be so bad....????

Can see me taking a while to decide!!
