I am in the process of importing my car into Spain - it's a 1999 A6 V6 2.5tdi. The Spanish changed the law on 1 Jan and now calculate the import tax payable on the co2 emissions of the vehicle, minus an allowance for the age of the car. My car doesn't appear in their official tables - how do I find out what the co2 emissions are, in some "official" looking way, so they'll let me pay the relevant amount and import the car? Thanks!

Have a look on the car sticker in the spare wheell well(or stuck on the 2nd page of the car's service book !) and if you cross reference it with the car manual, right at the bottom of the sticker, you will have a row of numbres: 1st is the unladen weight, 2nd is the urban cycle consumption(ltr/100km), 3rd is out of town consumption, 4th is mixt consumption, 5th is CO2 emissions in g/km. Look on page 207 in the owner's manual !

Fantastic - that's exactly what I needed. Much appreciated. Only downside is that it confirms I have to pay the top rate of import tax. Sod's law.
