First post here, have just bought a 05 Passat 2.0 litre SE TDI 140 bhp (new shape B6 I think????) and need floor mats front and rear, have checked out various sites on web and all tailored mats seem to come with either oval or round clips. Problem being there's no clips in floor of vehicle, has anyone of you had same problem?????? or can they advise where to obtain decent tailored mats without the clips.

Also the ECOM switch in centre console can you advise what that for.

Was also thinking of fitting parking sensors to rear any thoughts good or bad???

Econ mode turns the air conditioning off, and recycles just the air in the cabin. Can steam up on wet days, but clears in micro seconds if you turn back to auto.Parking sensors are i think a must, especially rear ones due to the car being very large!!.

Thanks for that Phil , will turn ECOM on and should see slight improvement in consumption also.

Will look into garages in the Glasgow area who fit the parking sensors, don't want to use VW dealer as they shall no doubt charge through the nose.

All mats come with these plastic screw type clips...all they do self tap into the carpet very easy to install..you must fit these all they may slip and effect your driving..
I always leave the econ yellow light on..as it saves on fuel and slight increase in performance..if you move the heater dial for windscreen it automatic turns on the aircon I always leave it on feet and windscreen as this dont happen when you turn off car..etc..

There's a switch with an arrow on it which recycles the air in the cabin (which makes it heat up quicker, for example), but otherwise if the air con is off I think it just acts like a normal car heater. I think the recycle option is totally independent of the air con, ie it can work with the air con either on or off.

As Stuart says, the Econ turns off the Aircon, and is theoretically more economical and therefore better for the environment (according to VW), and you are left with a straightforward heater. The 'recycle' stops air being drawn in from the outside (useful if you're following a stinking lorry for example) - remembering to reset it is my problem.

It is, I am told, best not to turn off the aircon for lengthy periods as it can damage the seals in the unit. Aircon on will demist the car quicker.

    Have a look here http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/faq.htm?id=11

I fitted the Meta Targa SR2, "which has the advantage of being fitted in a special rear numberplate surround so the car bumper does not have to be drilled."

I fitted them myself, and am well pleased.
