Mine is! Both FM and AM are pathetic.

I get around this by using a tape adaptor for my Ipod, but I'd really like to solve the problem. I've tried boosters, a new radio unit (A JVC CD player) and that's just the same....

    Anyone in the same boat?

If another unit is as bad and you used the correct aerial adapters then your Aerial is almost certainly at fault. They are known to fail on the Mk IV.

Bosch make a decent replacement, but be aware that the aerial cable might need an adapter. I seem to remember that the factory aerial doesn't use a normal aerial extension connector.

Have a look at bluespot.co.uk, I think they stock them.

    Hi

    This might be helpful:

I recently bought an 02 Golf 4 GTTDi 130 with standard radio and cd (my first VW and I luv it !)
I found I could not recieve AM radio signals at all
After discussions with VW dealer they suggested the aerial was probably faulty so I bought a new one £45 !!! but it still didn't work
I eventually found out that the VW roof aerials on Golfs have amplifiers in them and require a 12V power supply to work
On the standard VW radio this 12V is cunningly supplied from the radio via the centre core of the aerial lead
Check that the radio is outputting +12V from the aerial socket when switched on before looking at new aerials
If you want to fit another manufacturers radio you will need a PC5-90 roof aerial adaptor if the new radio does not output the 12V

    Rgds
