Just replaced the front wheel bearing on my Mk3 Golf and need the torque settings for the following:

    1. Hub assembly-to-strut (x2)
    2. Stearing knuckle (balljoint)-to-hub assembly
    3. Driveaxle retaining nut

Anyone know these or knows where I can get these? Thanks.

I thought the front wheel bearings needed to be put in using a hydraulic press?

Found this about changing wheel bearings in a thread from '2manygolfbitz':

you can use a large vise and I mean a large vise, it needs to open far enough to get the hub assy and the new bearing in together.approx 6 to 7 inches 8 would be better
open jaws enough for the hub flange where the wheel bolts go to be placed in a vertical plane facing downwards so that the flange can just rotate then using a very large hammer and a socket that is only just a bit smaller then the splined small end of the hub,hit the socket hard and level ,a few blows should knock the flange out

hopefully this happens leaving the bearing outer race behind in the hub assembly ,then remove the circlips, these are quite large and need a very strong pair of circlip pliers to remove there are two one either side of the bearing sleeve race and you can make it easier on the pliers by tapping gently with a narrow punch into the eye ends of the circlip knocking them inwards making them rotate slightly so they are free to move round and thus easier to remove circlip with the pliers

place the hub assy in the vice with the new beaing up against the old one and close the vice up using the new to press out the old this will move the old bearing outer combined race only a few mm till it hits the vice

then you need a tube to fit against the hub and also allow the old bearing to pass through it then continue pressing the old out with the new until both circlip slots are equally visiible i.e. bearing is centered in the housing

once this is done refit the circlips!!

place the hub flange against the inner race of the new bearing and place a socket on the other end of the bearing inner center race
Failure to do this part will just **** the bearing up!!

place everything in the vice and start to compress it all together making sure it goes together squarely and once the hub flange is fully into the housing

KEEP THE HUB FLANGE OFF THE FLOOR AND SAFE FROM KNOCKS UNTIL YOU REASSEMBLE THE HUB INTO THE CAR THEN TIGHTEN THE DRIVE SHAFT NUT UP AS SOON AS YOU CAN TO THE CORRECT TORQUE

if you do it this way 2 benefits
1). you dont forget to tighten it and screw your bearing up

2). the bearing should last a long time before wearing out

    hope this helps
this is way I did them before I got the press now its a hell of a lot easier to say the least
they can be done in situ but you need a special tool kit to do it
also remember to get tracking and camber reset afterwards

I STILL NEED THOSE TORQUE SETTINGS!!!
