hi malcqQV, I Hear what u are saying about sidelights in a built up area but i bet the insurance companies would beg to differ in the event of a claim. cars are built with headlights for a reason so its a no brainer -use them.

Totally agree, and it's no coincidence that current day VAG models' light switches go straight on to main headlight rather than sidelight first.

    They do wind me up.

People with one headlight and one side light (on opposite sides),
People driving in fog with NO lights on at all,
Fog lights and silly little blue sidelights (They can't use their full beams because you won't be able to see their blue side lights),
BMW drivers on sidelights and fog lights because you can't see their silly little outline sidelights if they have headlights on,
People who use fog lights in heavy rain,

I agree on nearly all of what you say.

and i don't want to re-stablish the whole fog light thing.

If the rain is heavy enough to reduce visibility to less than 100m then you should be using them.

    On topic:

Sidelights only at night? Never what a stupid idea. Main beam to sidelights, and repeat until they realise.

I say: Dipped Beams all the time until you need Main Beam or Fog Lights, day or night.

If I can increase my visibility to other road users then I am less likely to have some <insert word> pulling out on me.

We should ALL have dedicated LED Daytime Running Lights.

    <sigh>

    not this old chestnut again

sidelights are for dusky, poor weather (such as slight rain/drizzle) or any other conditions which require slightly increased visability

headlights are for dark nights, poor weather conditions (heavy rain/snow)

foglights are for fog, obviously and i think we can all recognise when they are actually required and when not

this whole 'are they ok, are they not ok' is ridiculous, if you fit extra lights to your car and they're bright, don't have them on unless you need them, i hate this current trend of driving around with fog lamps and sidelights on, these numpties don't seem to realise how hard it is to see them in general traffic

    I quite agree Carl
