I called a guy today and the maximim he said he could do to my car is and extra 17bhp. Im gutted as the car is too slow for me. Is there anything i can do make this better? Seems pointless paying 250 quid for an extra 17bhp

17BHP is very optimistic to say the least. With a chip to run solely on 97-99 RON fuel, an air filter (K&N panel) and a decent exhaust such as Supersprint, I would say 15BHP increase. Pull the head off and give it bigger exhaust valves together with a port and polish, may add another 5. Add a very mild cam and you could be getting into the 140BHP area but for a lot of money. High lift cams can play havoc with these engines, even very mild ones. These engines are virtually un-tuneable. There is a supercharger kit but it only fits left hand drive models.

I really hate this version of the golf . Dont even think its worth doing anything to it. I had a 1.4 golf and that was more fun to drive. but thanks for the tip anyway

The only tuneable (in my opinion) modern VAG cars are the turbo models. Those people that sell re-maps have different opinions.
