Does anyone know whether this is connected?

I have a Audi A6 1.8 and for the last few months the oil pressure light has been coming on/off.
My local garage put in a new pressure switch and the problem was resolved for a few months, this started again prior to xmas, the garage checked it and everything seemed fine mechanically and I was told it was probably electrical and was advised to keep on driving the car.

On Boxing night the car started making loud noises on high rev for about 10 minutes until the car broke down and come to a stop without any turnover/compression.

The AA man said the same problem had happened to his dad and pointed out the oil pump failure.
The local garage had a look and identified from removing the case that the camshaft was damaged and the timing belt had gone.
The garage replaced both later to find the car would not start because of a fault to the ECU.
This then got repaired, everything was put back together it was let run idle for 2 hours perfect.
Then they took it for a test drive after 10 minutes the engine started making engine noises.

Could all this be related to the initial oil pressure light problem, because it is approaching the bill time and I need to fine out is there a share of the blame or simply bad luck?
