Im looking at changing my car for a Golf GTI.

I would prefer the 150BHP 1.8T, but realistically on my budget i would imagine it will be a 2.0.

Could you please give me advice on common faults on both theese engines to look out for.

Also is it true that the 2.0 burns alot of oil?

hello mate, yeah the 1.8T is nice, but it is true that the 2.0 GTi does burn a lot of oil, vw got the piston rings and oil scrapers very wrong on this engine. the 2.0 GTi is 115 Bhp but you could try and get the 1.8 16v which is 125Bhp.

well reliable yeah it is but that depends on individual cars but as a hole i guess they are, how much oil again depends on the car, i have heard of them getting throught 1 litre every 1000miles or so, which is a lot, i would go for the 1.8 non turbo engine,
