While replacing the LH rear indicator bulb recently I noticed that the lamp holder appeared to have the fitting and wiring for a LH fog lamp bulb.

Of course it wasn't so easy as adding a bulb; does anyone know where the connection to the fog lamp circuit can be made?

Ps I hate people that drive around with rear fog lamps on when they are not necessary!!!

This is a German thing, they think its safer/clearer to have just 1 fog lamp so its not confused with brake lights. BMW are the same.

Not sure on the connections other than tapping into the wire for the RHS. Wire for it may even come on the LHS as in Germany the fog lamp would illuminate on the LHS.

I may try this myself, as like you I hate ppl who use foggies unecessarily - more so at this time of year as some think either its foggy as they can't see out of the rear window or they press all the buttons to get the heated rear window on!! And its better to flash them with 2 fogs than 1!!

I'm getting the bleep noise on starting as I need to change my brake/tail light bulb - so may have a look then.

Had a look again this weekend. The bulb holder appears wired and I just need to cutout the "blank" in the rear lamp cluster, but rather than run a wire across to the right hand side is there a central juction box?

When i bought my car, I checked the bulbs and only one fog came on, so I got a bulb and tried fitting it, the hole is closed off so the backing plate wont go back, then I realised its only suppose to have one

I didn't check to see if the holder was live, but i would assume it is. I'm off to put the multimeter on it now, I'll let you know.

I thought I tried the easy way by fitting a bulb into the holder. But no power

Oh, ok you actully fitted the bulb ok and the back went back on, on my car it has a smaller whole to stop the correct bulb from fiting through.

I going out the door to look right now <img>

Wow a bit chilly out there tonight, the bulb works in the holder on my year of car, but the back of the cluster has only part of the holder cut open, so the bulb doesn't go through. that would be an easy upgrade.

What year of car do you have? maybe they changed the design.

Well, I got round to changing the brake light bulb in my avant and thought I would try just fitting a bulb, but it doesn't light, I suppose it must have it wired in a certain way as if it was 'live' and a simple installation of a bulb worked, when there was no bulb present as standard, it would show a bulb failure on the driver info display, so it must need some electrical wiring input for it to work.

    Mine is a 03 A4 Avant.

You must be down this way? at least its not raining

I would assume your Audi has a different wiring loom, tomorrow I will check the colur of the cable powering the bulb and you could check to seem if you have them on yours.
