smell of petrol / fumes in car

Hi Can anybody advise i have a 4motion, and recently the car has started to smell of fumes / petrol in side the car. As if the fumes are coming through the vents. i have had the car checked for a petrol leak but nothing was found. but the car still smell very strong. i have been told that the fumes could be coming through the hatch ? Please Please someone point me in the right direction.

i get the same thing with Diesel Fumes in my TDI but only when stopped/reversing or heavy braking it does my Head in ive tried to find what it is but cant i have even jacked the car up and had a good look underneeth but nothing. i would be interested in any answers to this also

Me too just occasionally usually in traffic, can't decide if it is mine or another car. My wife has noticed it of recent in her car which is not VAG.

Just got my car back from garage. the problem was the sender unit under the back seats, The plastic cap had come loose.
