I have just bought a warning triangle for my passat from ebay. The auction had a picture of a passat b5 with the triangle in the boot recess (attached) I tried to fit it earlier and there is no way it seems to fit. Its in its folded position, but when placed in position in the bootlid, there is no way of getting the clamp over to screw it back in.

The part is genuuine VAG, although it it stamped with the audi logo and part number 4B5 860 251 B. Does anyone know if this is the correct part or can you check it against yours? I may pop down to volkswagen and ask them to clarify it for me.

Part no is the same as mine (B5.5), I think you will need a new bracket, I had to buy one for mine ( I think a B5.5 bracket will fit your boot recess) only £6 from the local dealers, very cheap I thought.

No luck at VW, I think the man at the parts desk thought I was a little sad! I explained the situation (that I appear to have a triangle from a b5.5 and could I buy a bracket for a b5.5 to fit to my b5) but he wasn't overly helpful and doubtful it would work!!

From the picture above and the triangle I have, the problem seems to be the feet that keep it up. On mine, the feet are located underneath the triangle and the one I need (pictured) the feet appear to be tucked behind the triangle, allowing it to fit in the recess. With the feet being at the bottom, the unit has too much height to fit in the boot!

Atleast, this is how I make sense of it....!?

    Hi Guys,

I need a triangle for my B5.5 too but I'm confused I have three part numbers differing only by the letter on the end and I was wondering does anyone know if there's any difference between them or if any of them is model specific i.e.for B5 or B5.5? The numbers are 4B5 860 251B/C/E,
any ideas? Could any B5.5 owners check their original VW boot mounted safety triangles?

    Thanks Guys!
