hi all, just a post to see if anyone could make any suggestions, driving home tonight my car has developed what i would describe as a missfire, its a 2001 passat 130 tdi sport estate, full vag service history with 130000 mls, prior to this it was running fine, when idling it just sounds like its down on one cylinder but the worrying thing is when i remove the oil filler cap it sounds as if there is a noise from the cam area!
All water and oil levels are ok and it doesn't use any, no warning lights are on and i'm wondering if anyone has any ideas or suggestions before i have to take it to a garage, is there any way they could confirm anything with the vag com or similar diagnostic equipment?

Sounds like one of the injectors is on its way out...vagcom should be able to tell you which one.

It does sound noisy in there. You need to get it plugged in to see if there is any fault codes.
I bet you get a misfire detected code # whatever cylinder.

And I bet it's something to do with the unit injector wire harness.

Hi again, many thanks for your replies and help, started car this morning and its running fine again? but took it to an independant diesel garage with diagnostics and it came up with "18075 valve for pump injector cylinder 2 electrical problem in circuit p1667" the guy seems to think it could be just the connector on the injector and says to take cam cover off and make sure its tight, would i need another cam cover gasket and will it affect computer if i disconnect wire to re make connection? also as wev'e had torrential rain lately could this in any way affect the electrics? many thanks again for your replies and help.

The guy is correct about the connections, this is what i was thinking.

Gasket no, use old one (rubber) It will not affect the computer as long as you keep the ignition turned off while you unplug things. Although a code will be logged from the misfire and will need clearing at some point.

Passat sport, thanks again for the reply, he cleared the fault code when he had it on the diagnostic, hence me asking if it was ok to disconnect wiring to injector in case i brought it up again as a fault, looks like its a job for the weekend now. fingers crossed it will be ok!! thanks again, top site!!!
