    Hi,

I've recently bought a 1999 1.6 SE and there is a noise coming from the front end and it is in time with the rolling speed (not rpm). I have checked tyres and brake disks but all looks clear.

It sounds like a kids bike with a pegged playing card flicking in the spokes.

I just read a little on the 02k gearbox fault and wonder whether this sounds like a symptom? I had assumed that the gearbox fault had been looked at - it has done 98k miles and there is what looks like non-factory sealant on the gearbox housing.

I wondered if it could be a wheel bearing but the sound isn't prominently from one side or the other.

    Any advice much appreciated. Cheers,

    Matt

It could be the brake pad sensor that has come lose from its clip and knocking on the rims, can occur when 17" or 18" rims are added.

I've got a problem with a wheel bearing on the front driver side. Sounds like something vibrating, the slower I go the deeper the sound, vice versa.

Guy that did my servicing noticed it, said it was fine until it gets to the annoying stage, on the ramps it made no sound at all. Passed MOT yesterday. Not doing alot of miles i not too fussed about it.

Sounds like the bearing to me on yours.

if it was bearing going they tend to make whirring or wobble type noise. and when they brake up they make a grinding noise, i know it is simple thing to say but is there a nail in your wheel making the ticking noise.

Hmmm. I was wondering about that too. Looks like I need to get my finger out and give it a thorough look over.

    Cheers,

It it's a CV joint then it would only really click when cornering.

    Hi

Ive got a very similar problem with my 2002 Golf GT TDi 150bhp a strange rattling/griding noise when i go round a left hand corner at speed or on full lock in a car park.

I have had the following looked at and changed but the sound still persists.

New CV joint and drive shaft on the drivers side
New wheel bearing on the drivers side
    A few of the bushes
Fitted new suspension (SPAX) all round (New top mounts)
Downgraded to 17" alloys as thought it could be rubbing
New ABS sensor as old one was loose

I have had a few garages look at it but still no one can give me an idea what it is. The only thing left is to replace the hub.

If anyone has any idea's please let me know

    Thanks

    Chris
