New battery causing alarm to go off

Just wondering if anyone can help?
I had a new battery put into my polo today which caused the alarm to keep going off. The car parts shop that fitted the new battery for me couldnt disable it. Apparently its a Logic alarm, which is standard.

Unfortunately i had to drive home with the alarm and the hazard lights going cos they still couldnt fix the problem by the time they closed for the evening! I had to disconnect the battery when i got home to stop it going off.

Any ideas would be really appreciated...

A Logic alarm isn't standard but may be a dealer fit option. Do you have a fob for the alarm or override key? What year is the car?

Its a 96 P reg and i only have a bog standard key. Not even central locking!

You are going to need the alarm removing, are you capable of doing this? I initially I thought it would need cut circuits re-joining but if it runs when triggered it can't have any ignition cuts.

No i have little knowledge of car mechanics or electrics.
Would i be best calling a moble alarm specialist if there is such a thing?

You need an auto electrician of some type to come out and remove the alarm. Don't let them sell you a new one either unless you want one. Your car has a built in passive transponder immobiliser from the factory (a chip in the key is read by a box under the dash which sends a code to the ECU) which is very difficult to get past and is perfectly adequate for your requirements.
