Once you get used to the Handbrake on a B6 it is not usually a problem except.......I chose the 'Auto Hold' option on mine(a 170ps Sport Manual Estate).

The 'AUTO HOLD' is VERY useful especially on hill starts and in heavy stop go traffic, as mentioned in other postings. I wish I did not have to press the button at the start of every trip though.

A Warning though - If you get back to driving a more conventional car i.e one with a normal handbrake( like my B5) it is VERY EASY to forget that that Auto hold facility isn't there, and I very nearly had an embarrassing incident in a traffic queue. I had got so used to the Auto hold on my B6 that when I drove my wife's B5 the car was ½" short of the car in front. I know Iknow, I should have paid more attention to what I was doing but........I can't be the only one that this has happened to !

    Regards

I have to admit I love the Auto Handbrake/Auto Hold/DSG combination.
I just wish they had moved the Autohold button to the other side of the gear lever for RHD cars so it was more visible.

try pushing the auto brake (P) button on dash while your moving. ''' NO DONT''''. i caught it by accident just before i came to a stop. good job i had seat belt on. i'd have hit the steering wheel with a thud.
as it was it shook me up. i believe it brakes all four wheels. dead stop. be warned!!!

if it happened at 25 mph or more it could be disastrous. maybe it doesn't work above a certain speed or it operates progressively to bring you a stop if all else fails to work.

I too like the Auto-hold function.... although....

Why does it not work in reverse?

I reverse into my garage every night, and it's on an incline, so the auto hold is a definite necessity to stop from rolling back down and wearing the DSG clutch.

Hmmm... is there a setting to enable it on the Multifunction computer? Maybe mine's been disabled.

I personally prefer to have the Auto Hold as off by default as I don't always need it, and more importantly, slow speed manouevres in a multi story car park are a complete nightmare with it on!!!

AHH... my bad... It DOES work in reverse, just I get out, open the garage, get in, and then try to engage auto hold...

One thing i fail to do...

    PUT THE SEATBELT ON.

Is there a way in VAG-COM to allow you to enable autohold with the belt off?
