PASSAT V6 TDI 163?

I've just viewed a V6 TDI Passat on an 03 plate. Is there any visual inspection etc that would confirm if it is a 150bhp or 163bhp model?

Hi, engine code AKN-150 Bhp. Look on the log book and see engine code and number. There are no 163 Bhp v6 tdi they are AFB/AKN-150, AKE-180, AYM-155(Audi only !)

Looking at Parkers online there are two versions (150 & 163) with a 21 May change in production from one to the other?

I have a 150 bhp, and wanted to know the same info. Ie what differentiates the 163bhp and 150 bhp V6 Tdi Passats. I believe the engine is the same - the difference is the chip/tuning. Also the 163 complies with EU4 so that might give some clues. If the 163 was introduced at the same time VW did the facelift in 03 then look for indicators in the mirror housing as opposed to the wing. Hope this helps. Thanks for the info. The car does not have the indicator on the mirrors. It has the later version of alloy wheel which I assumed co-insided with the change to 163 from 150. It also has the visible vehicle number through the windscreen. See link:
