    Hi,

New to the forum though I've had many VWs over the years.

I've acquired a 1.4 tdi Polo with an (apparently) knackered engine though I've got some of the history behind it. The chain driving the oil pump snapped resulting in no oil pressure. The chain, tensioners, pump and bearing shells have been replaced but oil pressure is low. I can't actually confirm this because I can't get the engine to start! So two questions :

    1. Does a new oil pump need to be primed to generate pressure initially or could there be something else amiss?

    2. Does the fuel system need primed to get it to start (it's been lying for some months)?

Hope someone can shed some light .............

Hi the oil pump does not need priming, There are sometimes after a long stand still the diesel pump can have problems with delivering the fuel.If you are sure it is not getting fuel, release the pipes at the injectors, and turn the engine over,be sure you have a fully charged battery. At the same time if you are in doubt about the oil pressure, remove the oil pressure switch and put your finger over the hole you should feel some pressure,it would be best if you found out this, before you start the engine.

Oil pressure problem solved. Apparently debris in the oil from the chain failure had blocked the oil cooler (must be a fine matrix inside?). New oil cooler fitted resulting in plenty of pressure.

Problem now is that it appears to be firing on only two cylinders; any common causes with this engine? bearing in mind that it has been unused for a couple of months.
