I own a 1999 2.5 tdi Avant quattro and whilst a fantastic car has a couple of niggly problems.

When I activate the rear windscreen wiper it moves and then has a mind of its own, stopping, starting not stopping etc. Question. It seems like a relay, is there one that activates the rear wiper? Does anyone have experience of this problem?

The rear washer doesn't work at all. I thought that the rear washer would use a pump at the rear, how do I check this?

If anyone has had similar problems please let me know and any advice would be REALLY useful!!!

    Thanks

the wiper fault is down to the motor, theres a control panel in the motor its self which tells the motor which position its in and so it parks correctly.if it wears it doesnt know where it is and does what you say, as for the rear wash in the right hand side of the boot the washer pipe sits in there make sure it hasnt come apart on the connector, hope this helps.

Hi My last A4 Avant had tthe same problem. I took off the motor and stripped it down and replaced the brushes(they where very worn). I got the these from a nice chap at a nearby alternator specialist. you could get someone to do this for you as the brushes don't cost that much.

The bleeding thing is stuck half way accross the rear screen, i don't suppose any of you kind people know how i remove the inner trim panels without breaking them? I have found one screw set into the plastic handle but can't see any other fixings......please help

    Hi Ian,
There are two screws beside the one you found , one on each side that join the top and bottom trim peices together,

You only need the bottom trim out, start at one side, ease a flat blade under and follow the edge round twisting when it gets to a tight bit , its held on with push (crap plastic) blind fixings, it will jiggle off, but carefully.
The rest of the job is covered on the other thread about rear wiper removal
    Good luck with it
    Mike

    Thanks Mike,

Job done....and with no broken (crappy) fixings thank god!!

It really is easy changing the rear wiper motor...although the wiper arm had seized onto the drive spindle, lots of gentle jiggling and WD 40 did the trick.

    Thanks for the help
    Ian
