    Hi
I'm new here and I've just bought myself a '97 Sharan 110HP TDI.
It drives like a dream, I'm very satisfied with my purchase!

First thing to do is to change oil and filters, right?

I'm done with most of it, but I'm having a bit trouble changing the gearoil.
I have found two plugs on the gearbox; One that sits under the left driveshaft,
and one that sits on front of the gearbox a bit closer to the bottom of the gearbox than to the top.
My initial idea was that the front plug must be the one I should use for filling and the bottom one for draining, but when I screwed out the front one, the oil was pouring out, so I immidiately put it back in.

    My question:
Is there a third plug - perhaps on top of the gearbox - for filling, or could it be that the front plug is the one for filling and the box is presently overfilled?

Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi,

Yes, you are right in your thinking, the lower one is for draining and the one towards the front is for refilling, depending upon how much on a level ground your car is resting some might come out from it.

Apparently you are supposed to fill it till it just starts to pour out but when i did mine I just checked the book and put in the suggested amount.

I am assuming that this is a 5 speed manual box.

    Cheers
