The ones I mentioned above I guess would be easy enough to cut into your foglight grills without having to cut into any bumper work

The ones on the Germaniatec site look very much like Ring Automotive ones, who are based in Leeds IIRC.

Yep !- I guess they are both one the same .... just thought I'd share there is going to be one major anti-climax if I find out that the bigger set of DLRs don't fit behind the bumper .... hey ho, all part of the experience.

Would be interesting to see if anything will fit inside the headlight unit itself, to give a more OEM look.

It's only a matter of time that someone does do it .... I had spoken to some manufacturer in Japan some weeks ago, much as though they said would do bespoke designs for customers, the tooling and effort required to do this just wasn't worth my small scale budget, I think they wanted $40,000 dollars lol - hence I declined. But I guess someone needs to bite the bullet and see if they can take apart a standard headlight and the drill in some holes for standard fit LEDs. Perhaps someone can get one from the breakers yard.

If I knew what the LED light strips looked like in close up, it shouldn't be too hard to take the headlamp apart to fit it within the unit. But none of the strips in the pictures look tidy enough to have on show like that. Unless anyone knows any different?

What are the dimensions of the S6 OEM LED lights?

The ones I have which seem to be some aftermarket equivalent are 50CM wide, 15CM DEEP, and 5CM in HEIGHT looking from the front - but assuming they can fit behind the bumper they will only be showing about 2CM of that HEIGHT as the rest will be buried behind the bumper.

Will know more tomorrow - car goes in for removal of bumper and inspection.

the LED strips are not the way to go for the headlamps, assuming you can take the headlight apart you will need to see how easy it is to define a specific contour of where you want the leds to go, and then drill X number of holes and fit individual LEDs into the mirrored/reflective part of the headlight. The same guy selling the LED strips on EBAY was also selling his version of that idea - if you go to EBAY and do a search for "AUDI R8 LED LIGHTS UNIVERSAL PROJECT A4 A3 A6 A8 TT Q7" you might see what that was.

The other thing I wondered, getting away from the R8 and S6 type LEDs, is to just build in some normal LED-based bulbs to use as DRLs; IIRC the S3 has round DRLs within the headlights; I had wondered if there was spaced to drill a hole somewhere and mount an LED-version of a single filament bulb in there to act as a DRL.

Could do with buying a s/h headlight unit to mess about with.

As some might have predicted this ... the initial bumper inspection revealed absolutely no space to fit those DLRs. I haven't given up just yet. Plan B now is that they are going to see if they can get a spare lower bumper mould to work with, idea being they will partially cut into that and some of the fog lamp mesh, with a view to sit them below the fog lights.

For now the project is on HOLD or unless I get fed up and quit while I'm ahead lol.
