Could be any number of things, you need a diagnostic scan carried out with Vagcom to reveal any fault codes from the ECU. This should help to pinpoint possible causes.

Hoiw much are the garage charging you for a diagnostic scan ? might be worth checking if theres anyone local to you with vagcom on this forum that maybe able to do the scan cheaper for you.

As already mentioned, get the car connected to VAG-COM or some diagnostics machine rather than trying to guess what the problem is. I had this problem myself where the car would suddenly lose power under heavy acceleration and go into limp mode until the engine was restarted. It turned out to be the turbo vanes were completely clogged with soot and the turbo had to be taken apart and cleaned.

The most common causes of limp mode are:

    1) Faulty MAF
    2) Faulty N75 boost control valve
    3) Split/dislodged turbo hose
    4) Turbo actuator arm seized/sticking
    5) Turbo vanes clogged with soot

If there is a fault with the turbo then a fault code will be logged and will probably say something like "charge pressure positive/negative deviation". MAF faults usually don't log any fault codes.

One thing you can do if your car does go into limp mode when driving (and I have to stress, do this at your own risk!!!) is turn the engine off and then back on again while the car is still moving, the power will return once the engine is restarted.

Cheers for the comments and information.
I have a mate who owns his own garage,He has a snap on diagnostic terminal with keys for different makes of cars.He has worked on a Ibiza tdi in the past for me. I know for sure it's not the MAF.
All the information given on here will be passed on so it gives him an idea what the possible causes might be and start the repair with the cheepest option first .
    Many thanks
I will let you know what the out come is when it's fixed.
