Hi all , in just 5 short days my luck has gone down the pan !!
My other half had her bag stolen with the only set of car keys in it !
no problem she says , we will have to go through the insurane ! only to find out we aint got no insurance , it ran out in december and she never let me know about the reminders. Is it possible to get new locks ? ive heard something about the key has to be coded or something.
    Thanks
    chris

Does anyone have any ideas about the locks ? catching the bus aint no fun in our weather conditions. if i got hold of a complete lock set including ignition lock and keys would this work? or would the new key need a code or something , i recently asked for a lock set of a guy off ebay who was breaking a sharan , his reply was he couldnt sell the locks and keys because then the engine wouldnt be no good. Im beginning to get worried.
Any help or a little info at all on this would be very appreciated.
    thanks again
    chris

If you had the car from new then you would have the security key, a plastic tag with the key chip inside and the lever pattern cut into it, this can be used to obtain new keys from VW.

Without this key your in the hands of your VW dealer - only they can reproduce the code from VW records.

Replacing any locks won't help as the ECU is coded to your unique key code and the car is a one tonne paper weight if the ECU doesn't get the right one.

Hi, thanks for the reply , the reason i wanted to change the locks was because the keys were stolen , is there anything else that could be done with the original locks i.e a different code or something, because if pot luck the person who has the keys , finds the car then !!! , i didnt have the car from new and are in the process of clearing out the house in search of this plastic tag you mentioned ! if i cant find it , is my only hope the dealers ?
    Thanks for the help

Hi, yes you can, you will just need someone with vag com and the Secret Key Code (Tachopro interfaces or VagTacho interfaces can read the code !) to match keys to the ECU. Pretty simple really if you have these things. If you near London, i could help you ! Another thing to do is to disable the lost keys and get a new key cut(dealer only ) and programed to the car...the thieves would still be able to open your car with the key but, they wont be able to drive away the motor !
