OK I'm going to be looking a two cars this weekend, both:
    2004 04 A4 avant 1.9Tdi Quattro Sport

Differences are one has 28,500 miles and costs £14,890 Trade

The other 51,000 leather interior and cost £12,990 Private

What is the best value for money will the 51k car cost me £1800 in repairs over the 28.5K car?

Also the books suggest £14,490 and £11,490 respectively for the cars.

    Any advice?

    Many thanks

    Iain

Low mileage TDi's are like gold dust, and can be seen in the price difference! The engine is virtually indestructable as long as its serviced properly, both of which will not of needed any major work doing as yet! Expect a cambelt change needed at 60k miles so the private cheaper one will need that doing in 9k miles time, but that can cost circa £400 from an independant to be done properly. There is plenty of chat regarding changing at 4 yrs regardless of mileage, so you may feel inclined to do this on either car in reality!

I think the main consideration here is the exact differences in the car specs. There were a lot of optional extra's available on the A4 Sport so go armed with a pad of paper and write everything down thats an extra to compare the cars. These can include:-

    Rear electric windows
    Electric folding mirrors
    Auto-dimming mirrors
    Electric memory seats
    Leather seats
    Sunroof
In-dash or glove box mounted 6 cd changer
    Sat nav
Driver Information System (DIS) - gives mpg etc readings
    Parking sensors
    Xenon headlights

The list goes on a bit, but there are plenty of things that were extras that you may not consider as extras!

For me i'd be swinging towards the cheaper private one with 51k miles just for the cost saving if the bodywork was good in both cases. It would take a good few optional extras to make me pay the extra for the lower mileage.
'53 Smart Roadster Coupe - So much fun, so little cost to run!!

'03 Kawasaki ZX6R B1H - Currently off the road due to binning it on the M1!

'02 A4 3.0 Quattro Sport - Gone but missed daily!
