luggage compartment light on

hi folks, got a golf mk 4 great motor, but like all cars not perfect. any way, my problem 2 u guys is this, which just started earlier my alarm went of for no apparrent reason ? not long after i took car out and luggage light came on and bleeps even though it was secure after several stops and double checks still happening. woprked out that car is telling alarm that boot is being opened when it is not. bad weather here in sunny scotland maybe dampness? if not. maybe a fault code error? thanks for reading guys and any free help would help big time! january blues already, yours thankfully snowy snowy

You need a new boot catch; the switch is built into it and not replaceable separately. Often they are damaged by water from a leaking washer jet fitting on the motor and sometimes the wiring on the plug is damaged (salt in washer fluid is the problem) which is tricky to repair.

cheers for that mate. now that you mention it' my back washers have been making a different noise proberly been spraying all over. its just my door open light which is staying on. which proberly means the switch is totally fried. u any idea how much a new catch would cost' and is it a dealer part only or does euro do it cheers for ur help i am very gratefull snowy
