    Hi,

My ABS light has been permanently on for a number of months now. I bought a VAG.com cable and a scan revealed that the front ABS sensor is faulty.

I bought a pattern one from Ebay – here:-

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...0771%26fvi%3D1

It arrived on Saturday and I tried to fit it yesterday. I’m having some problems in doing so. I could be mistaken but I think the sensor may be the wrong one.

The genuine VW sensor presses in to a circular metal guide behind the front disk, and as such the sensor is recessed in order to tightly press in to it. The sensor that I bought from ebay is too large to press in to this tube as it does not have the same recess on the plastic. It does look like it might fit if the circular ‘guide’ is removed though.

Have any of you ever fitted pattern sensors from a mk3? – is that metal ring removable, and should it be removed or would I be creating myself yet another problem if I tapped/drilled it out?

Any comments/advice would be much appreciated as I need to sort this problem out a.s.a.p in order to pass the mot.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Now resolved. Turns out the cylinder is part of the old sensor which has fused it's self to the hub, therefore I will remove it.
