    2002 A6 1.9 TDI 130
Recently my Oil and Water Temp Gagues started doing some strange things...

First i noticed that on a drive, apx 15 miles into it, the water temp gague started to drop from its normal readout when warm of apx80-90 degrees.
it was eratic and dropped down completely at one point...soon after i noticed that the oil temp gague was also dropping from its normal 90degrees...

More recently the water temp does appear to be o.k perhaps alittle lower but the oil temp doesn't seem to go much past 65-70degrees.

Could this be a problem with the sensors?

fyi...i noticed some water in the battery tray area and cleaned out the drain plugs as they were gunked up...is there any way that water ingress could have caused the problems with the oil and water temp electrics...?

First of all, I would rule out the common Plenum Chamber fault. This fault was supposedly eradicated on the facelift A6 from 2002 to 2004. So I doubt it would be anything to do with water ingress into the electrics in the passenger footwell.

Paul...my 2002 face lifted A6 I can tell you holds water very well...once the drain points under the battery and brake sys are gunked up water builds up just fine...!

How was the problem 'supposedly' fixed during the freshening...?

The idea with the facelift was to eradicate the 3 most common problems. Those being the temperature sensor, plenum chamber and MAF sensor. I understand they was 3 new parts that should work better, and on the recalled A6s they would replace the Plenum chamber with one which is more suitable. That was my understanding, anyway.

Well my oil temp is _normal_ at 90 but the water indications rarely gets above 85 and the battery - well .... let's say 14.5V seems comfortable for now....
My previous cars indications were spot-on but I'd appreciate any other 2.5tdi V6 owners opinions ....

    Update...FYI

Sidlow Audi had the car yesterday, diagnostics said water temp sensor faulty however once replaced the dash console/display gauge was still eractic...therefore a new console is required...$$YaY$$...!

Water temp now seems (when the gauge is reading correctly) to be back up to 90°...ish and the Oil temp also has risen up to 85°...ish (tho i'm not sure why the oil temp sensor should have had any drop in the first place)

hopefully with the car engine management now thinking that the water temp is correct...i should see the fuel eco go back up....!
