Hi, from previous posts, it's worth changing the water pump as most the front end of the car has to be removed in order to replace it , and the same applies when replacing the cambelt. I believe the part is not very expensive anyway, the cost is in the labor time.

And get the one with the metal impeller, not the plastic one.

Also if the dealers are doing the job! make sure you get a receipt for the TTY bolts used (stretch bolts).

They do try to get away without replacing them.

Tensioner stud, Is yours a passat PD btw. There is a picture on the front of the cam belt cover showing you the nm's and tightening degrees.

Have you got the crankshaft locking tool also?

I can mail you instructions if you PM me your engine code and E-mail address.

Definately get the water pump done.

My cambelt was changed as per normal, car put back together, one year later, water pump goes. And as has been said earlier, you have to dismantle the front end of the car to get to it.

When I got my water pump changed I also changed the cambelt again. The parts are cheap, its the labour in getting to it.

I concur with what these above say. Mine was the other way around, the water pump failed (on warranty) and they offered (and I accepted) the cambelts which were due in another 4k for a good price
    One German, Two Italian.
