Strange suspension noise

my 1.8 petrol golf cl has started to make strange rumbling noises from the front suspension. It sounds like worn weheel bearing noise. when i am driving and i steer slightly to the left the noise nearly goes away. but when going round corners the noise gets louder and also goes from one side of the car to the other depending on the direction. It just went through the (northern ireland) MOT today and failed on the lower suspension arm bush worn and the rear axle bushes. Would these have any effect on the noise.

Yes the bushes can make or contribute to the noise. It's pointless speculating on anything else until you get these fixed. Get your mechanic to check all the bushes. It's possible that a bush is not an MOT fail, but well worth replacing while the suspension is in pieces.
