I have just bought my 1st Audi a6 its a 2000 (X) and i'm very happy with apart from when you take your foot off the brake to creep forward in traffic it seems to judder, its as if your didn't have very good clutch control, but its an auto... Any ideas? I hope its not expensive.

Also I think the viscouse coupler has gone as you get a huge rush of air when you rev the engine.. Again any ideas would be great.

is it a CVT multitronic box ?

wear in the clutch plates can cause this fault.

Also has it had the oil changed every 40K ?

The multitronic box is particularly prone to problems when the oil has not been changed.

The tiptronic boxes are better but still need oil changes

ow do I know?? I has the manual selector to the right. Whic then brings up the 6 gears on the dash board! I can't find any proof in the service that the oil was changed. It had audi main dealer history till 33,000 miles ago! It has 133,000 miles now. I have been looking round the web and loads of people are saying its a new gear box as there is a big problem with this gear box and some others are saying that it the speed sensors in the front hubs.. Over to you for some help!

The multitronic has P,R,N,D with + & - to the right.

multitronics have 6 or 7 'gear ratios' so sounds like this is what you have.

Well if you are unsure of the oil being changed for the last 33K, then I would definatly get it changed, as 40K is the max distance to change the oil. Therefore with main dealer history, you would have had it done at 40K, & 80K. The question is was it done at 120K, or are you 13K over this very important service.

Yes I will have to get it changed. Do you think that could cause the problem I'm getting??? Will it do any damage? Also did you see my bit on the end of my 1st message regarding the viscouse fan coupler?

It will be the ABS sensors, either set wrong, or the brackets bent or dirt in the way as sure as eggs is eggs.

I have had the same problem and it is a common problem if you search thru the Audi section of the forum

To check viscous coupling try turning fan with engine switched off. It should turn with resistance.

If it will not spin without the pulley moving then it is seized and needs changing.

It is normal to get a rush of air when you blip the throtle. The fan is designed to slip when the revs exceed a certain amount. Gives more air at slow revs and allows engine to burn less fuel at higher revs
