Horn beeps when starting

Hello. Sometimes when I start my car the horn beeps. It is getting very annoying and embaressing. Please help cheerz trist

That is very odd, have you done any work on the steering column/wheel recently?

no i havent. I have noticed in the book that the horn circuit is near to the starter circuits. Maybe they are overlapping accidently?

Which year and engine?

its an L reg so 1994 with 1.4Litre engine.

The only thing I can suggest is to strip down the steering column controls and see if there is a problem, maybe with the horn contact wiring, I have never come across this on a Golf 3 but it is common on the Golf 1 and 2.

I've only just read this. In case you have not solved the problem, I had the same thing on my mk 2 16v Golf GTi, (unfortunately now gone to the great scrapyard in the sky). A local mechanic suggested that one of the other keys on my large bunch of keys was intermittently touching bare metal on the steering column as I turned the key. Hey presto - problem solved and easily tested! Hope this helps, Glyn
