Hi, I have just bought a 2002 A6 2.5 tdi SE Quattro Avant Tiptronic and love it. During a recent trip abroad it did not want to start though. The outside temp was between freezing and minus 12 C. The glow plug light comes on as usual for quite a time (7-8 seconds) but when I try to start it only 2 or 3 of the 6 cyclinders seem to fire up straight away, followed by the others, one at a a time and the whole process takes about 30 seconds. This must be putting a hell of a strain on the battery and starter motor and doesn't seem right. Performance and everything else seems fine and averaging around 29-30 mpg which is all I can expect I guess, although I was hoping for better.

Any help gratefully received!
