did nearly 60 mpg (59.8 mpg) today on M62 coming from Leeds to Manchester. 46 Miles total on average 70-75 miles without cruise control (I have got 55 reg 2.0 TDi SE 140)

I could not belive this because on the same motorway I did around 46 mpg while going from Manchester. I wish i can achive the same result on Urban areas as well. I am doing around mid 30's only
Funny!!! I went to Rishworth, from Home (South Manchester) on Friday.
M56 > M60 anti > M62 > A672, now the winds have been very blustery from NE & E for the last week or so, my MPG was awful going, about 43 which is what I usually average overall. Coming back with a tail wind about 63mpg. So I think the weather can play a big part.

hello all. just took delivery of a new 2.0 TDI SE had it 2 weeks now. on local roads it returns about 35 and on the motorway about 50 to the gallon using cruise control. Its shadow blue, estate and apart from a few niggles with the hand brake it's an excellent car.

I have just moved from a 2005 Passat 2.0TDI SE DSG and used to see around 50mpg on a 60 run up to Blackpool. Just been up there again in my new A6 2.7tdi Auto and the best I could do was 41.4 :-( hope it gets better when the egine loosens up. The Passat is in the 'Cars for Sale' area if anyone is interested.

    hi lads
i travelled 264 miles today in my 170 tdi sport manual estate and filled the tank to the neck before and after and all it took was 23 litres = 52 mpg .
not bad for a big powerful heavy car.
i believe personaly that the way to get good economy from these cars is to
keep the revs below 2000 rpm as much as possible and get into the high gears ie 5th and 6th and use the cars torque

    Holy thread ressurection....

At a personal request - I've attached a link to the MPG chart that I mentioned (bloody) ages ago: http://www.jamestigerwoods.com/mpg/MPGCharts.zip

I think they're self explanatory - the Golf one's the most up to date one and is a little clearer - The Passat one is older and harder to fathom - And there's a blank one to play with.

They are, however, in Excel 2007 format

Let me know how you get on

I have seen 99 mpg on my Passat R36...........................
    .................................................. ..................

Was going downhill at the time

On the motorway I have seen 34 mpg and I was happy with that.

The other day though, the wife said, "why is it only doing 6 mpg???????"

"OOOOoops" I said and slowed down.......

The most I've ever got is on a trip from Mortehoe down to Woolacombe beach, where I managed 120 mpg (average).

However, my average mpg over approx. 2000 miles (setting 2 on MFD) is 48.8 mpg.

    Hi All
I run a B6 Estate 170bhp Highline, I was dissapointed at the displayed fuel consumption compared to the previous car B6 estate 140bhp. I have now discovered that the average consumption readout is undereading 7-8 mpg when compared to a more accurate brim to brim calculation. This improves the consumption from very low 40s to a much more acceptable high 40s concidering how hard the car is worked and the newness of the engine.
so I would recomend that people check to accuracy of the readout.
One other thing thats very noticable is how much more noisy the 170 is compared to the 140bhp engine

Hi, I now have a 2007 passat 2.0tdi sport estate. Having been driving a 1999 passat 1.9tdi 110 sport salooon for the past 8 years, i am a bit disapointed with the fuel consumption of the newer 140. The old bus would do around 50 mpg whatever you threw at it. 60+ if i was really bored. But dispite the lack of mpg i cannot bring myself to change up to 6th below 40 mph and wear feather duster shoes. Whats the point in having a fast comfortable car with climate control and all the other goodies, if you cant use them? people claim better mpg by tailgaiting lorries, freewheeling down hills and driving at 56mph on motorways! GET A LIFE. Or better still get a fiat 500 and stay off the motorways. These practices are dangerous and probably contribute to holding up the rest of us who want to get to our destination before the price of diesel goes up again.
