I noticed that the oil was still black, admittedly I only checked the dipstick after 2000 miles of driving since the oil change.

Long story short I phoned my mechanic who advised me that the oil had been changed but since the car has done 114,000 miles there must be some sludge build up which caused the oil to go black quickly.

He is now recommending an engine flush and then top up with new oil.

Would this be true, or did he see me coming?

Diesels dirty the oil quite quickly, don't worry about it.

Totally agree, only a few miles and the oil will turn black.

I agree, Had my oil changed 3 months ago, I looked at the oil after 2 weeks and it was going black, Spoke to my mechanic friend who said you could change the oil every week and it would still go black after a matter of days. Common fact, diesels run sooty.

    Hi,

Just to add to this... 500 miles will see the oil darker than when it went in...
