I have a 2001 VW Passatt 1.9TDI 130BHP that is leaking oil from the various joints between the Turbo Charger and Intercooler.
It has always leaked oil from the joint above the Intercooler depositing oil
onto the inner wing, I am told this is common.
It has started to leak a fair amount of oil from the joint next to the Oil
    Filter and below the Intercooler.
My concern is that I am told that there should not be any oil in this pipe
and therefore there must be a leak into it from another location. Having
looked at the Haynes manual, the only point that oil could enter the system, is through the Turbo Oil lubrication Pipe.
Should I be worried about the oil leaking from this pipe or is this
    considered normal?

Thats looks like your turbocharger seals are shot and will need a rebuild verry soon or you are babbying your motor too much and the oil gets sucked in the intake. Turbo's seals are mecanichal seals and relay on pressure differences to seal. A bit of oil inside the intercooler is normal but excesive isnt ! Remove the oil cap and listen for hissing/presurising of the cranckase. You may have a plugged Cranckase Ventilation Valve(CCV). Also does your car smokes white blue at tick-over? Most important keep an eye on engine oil an top up as necessary . Also have the car scaned for fault codes. If it gets any worse(smoking !) just go and see a diesel specialist !

    Many Thanks adamss24.
I do not have any problems with smoking other than the odd bit of black smoke if, I thrash it.
I will check to see whther there is any noise coming from the Oil cap but suspect the Turbo Oil seals may be an issue, is this likely to involve an expensive overhaul?
Not sure what you mean by babbying the car. I have to admit I do not thrash it as much as I used to as I now live in the countryside but, how would this impact what is going on. Somebody else suggested I give it a thrashing to force the oil round but, should the oil be ther in the first place?
    Cheers again

Diesel engines need boost for the turbocharger seals to seal properly, also with age, oil mist its getting sucked from engine trough the CCV and ends up inside the intercooler boost pipes and it will gather there. Few table spoons of oil its normal , anything more than that would need investigating further. By babbying your car i mean you're not driving it hard enough as under 1500 rpm there is not sufficient boost in the intercooler and the oil doesnt get sucked and burned into the cylinders. Now when the exhaust seals let go then the car smokes white/blue. When the inlet seals let go you may experience "runaway engine", as the ecu cannot distinguis between hot oil and diesel and it will rev to destruction. When that happens with a manual then you may stall the engine putting in a high gear and stepping on the anchors. Try to shift every day few times at 3000rpm and at least once at 4000. I dont mean to drive like an lunatic but actually is good for the turbocharger and cleans the soot of the intake/exhaust. Any hissing when you remove the oilcap with the engine runing means that you have a blocked CCV that will lead to early failure of the turbocharger. Good luck troubleshoting them faults.
